Adult day care in a real home
Your loved one spends the day with us, then goes home to sleep in their own bed. You get time to work, run errands or rest, knowing they're safe and in good company.
Is it right for your family?
Adult day care works well when someone lives at home with family but shouldn't be alone all day. Families call us when:
- The family caregiver works during the day.
- Mom or Dad is lonely at home and does better around people.
- They need a little help with the bathroom, meals or getting around.
- The family is thinking about assisted living and wants to start slowly.
A day at Mary's House
Day guests spend the day right alongside our residents. They sit at our table for meals and snacks, join in music, games and conversation, and spend time outside in the yard. When they need a break, there's a quiet place to rest.
- Help with the bathroom and incontinence care
- Help walking and getting around
- Help with medications due during the day
- Someone watching out for them all day
- English and Spanish spoken
Small on purpose
We take no more than five day guests at a time. Our caregivers get to know each one by name, by their routine and by what makes them smile. It feels like a visit to family, not a waiting room.
Why a home instead of a center
Large day centers can be busy and loud. Mary's House is a single family home in a quiet Cutler Bay neighborhood. Meals are cooked in our kitchen. Some days it's music after lunch, some days it's a game at the table or sitting outside. For a lot of older adults, especially those who get overwhelmed in crowds, a small home is easier.
And if the day ever comes when they need more, they already know us. Some of our residents first came to us for a short stay before they moved in.
How to get started
Call or text us and come see the house. We'll meet your loved one, ask about their health, their medications and their daily routine, and make sure we're a good fit. Then we pick a first day. Before the first day we'll ask for some health information from their doctor and a copy of their medication list, and we'll walk you through it.
Good to know
- Is Mary's House a nursing home?
- No. We're a licensed assisted living home. Our caregivers help with daily care, but we don't provide nursing care.
- Who pays for adult day care?
- Medicare doesn't pay for adult day care. Florida's Medicaid Long-Term Care plans include adult day care as a covered service, and many private long-term care insurance policies cover it too. Coverage depends on your plan and which providers it works with. Mary's House works with Florida Medicaid Long-Term Care plans from Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Simply Healthcare. Ask us and we'll check your coverage with you.
- What days and hours are you open, and what does it cost?
- Call us. We'll go over days, hours and pricing based on what your family needs.
- Do you serve nearby areas?
- Yes. Families come to us from Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Homestead and all of South Miami-Dade.
- Need someone to stay overnight?
- We also offer respite stays of up to two weeks when a room is open.
